 Our 2016 season starts with a seed swap and information stall at Haltwhistle Plant festival in the Leisure Centre on Sat 21st May.
Please bring any spare home-saved or bought seeds - especially for plants which are food sources for people or pollinators. We'll also have the full program for our free Visits to Edible Gardens (V.E.G) and evening verge survey walks for 2016. Details of the two V.E.G. events in May are below and the first of the verge surveys is planned for June 7th at Allensgreen, details will be in next month's update.
There is a meeting on Weds 11th May at 7.00pm (for coffee, meeting will start at 7.30 prompt) in the relocated Kasteale, Westgate, Haltwhistle, to finalise arrangements for our stall at the plant festival, discuss the Harvest celebration planned for Sept 17th, and to tie up any loose ends regarding the VEG visits and verge walks. All welcome.

V.E.G. Events
Wed, 25th May, Organic, kitchen garden
Visit plantsman Andrew Davenport's cottage garden in Bingfield. A compost enthusiast, Andrew grows veg for his own use alongside his commercial nursery. This early season visit will enable us to see some established crops and preparations for later plantings. Andrew will give us an introductory talk, The low maintenance kitchen garden, in the garden gazebo and answer our questions. Tea/coffee provided.
Meet in Sainsbury's car park, Haltwhistle at 6pm
Tue, 31st May, 1.30pm-3pm Veg growing as therapeutic work
Visit to Tynedale Horticultural Service at Ridley Hall, Bardon Mill. The Learning Disabled gardeners will show us how they raise plants and grow veg in glasshouses, polytunnels and raised beds. Plants available to buy. Limited number of places for this visit.

| The Saturday before the Haltwhistle event Transition Tynedale, in conjunction with the North Pennines AONB, have a plant and seed swap at Hexham Farmers' Market. This event also focuses on plants, and seeds, which are edible by us or a resource for pollinators. In recognition of the international designation, by the United Nations, of 2016 as the year of the pulse they will be giving away pulse seeds.

Hadrian's Wall Community Champions next event is a guided walk
High, Low, Near and Far' onTuesday 17th May 2016, 10.30am-4.00pm (approx.) Meet at Steel Rigg Car Park
How much do you really see of the environment all around you; settlements, plantations, terrain, industrial archaeology? Richard Holmes will guide this walk, providing a range of tools and simple techniques that will help us to really take notice of the different forms and features in the landscape when out and about.
