The January screening of Finite was well attended - and what a film it was! Our February film, Year in a Field, is meditative rather than combative, and should be a more comfortable watch.

 On Tues 19th March we'll screen Six Inches of Soil, a story of young British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food. We're inviting several young local farmers to join us and, in an informal discussion, after the film tell us how they're doing things differently on their holdings.

Hedge planters wanted! - Saturday 17th Feb
Brampton 2 Zero is organising a BIG Hedge Plant at Unity Farm CA8 1QZ on Saturday 17 Feb. The grand plan is to create corridors for wild life and pollinators around Brampton which will join existing woodlands together. The Unity Farm Lonning hedge will eventually join Dandy Woods to Gelt Woods. This is a big job so B2Z needs lots of people!
Volunteers meet at the Unity Farm Lonning south of Brampton at 10am.

Please dress appropriately for planting and bring a pack lunch if you wish to stay the whole day.

What Place Does Protest Have in Democracy?
Saturday 24 February 2024, 11.00am to 12.30pm at the Church Hall, St Mary's Catholic Church, Hencotes, Hexham, NE46 2EB
Admission free, retiring collection.
A panel of three speakers with local and regional knowledge of the topics will discuss the issue with an emphasis on what local solutions might be found. The panellists will speak briefly and the remaining time will be a discussion for all.
A list of associated resources will be provided.

A message from Climate Action Newcastle
Local campaigners have been urged to take action NOW to prevent even more UK subsidies being awarded to our country's two biggest carbon emitters: Drax and Lynemouth biomass power plants. Climate Action Newcastle's in-depth background report
https://www.climateactionnewcastle.com/post/biomass-stop-the-subsidies spells out how Lynemouth's biomass burning is causing deforestation across North America. Wood pellets are being shipped in record quantities through Port of Tyne, to produce the second highest levels of carbon emissions in the UK (only Drax is higher). Now it's feared that its owner, EPH, is seeking even more subsidies, to take part in the BECCS carbon capture scheme.
