Wor Space - a Place to Grow
Whistle Art Stop and friends are set to transform a derelict plot in the heart of Haltwhistle into a green space for everyone. All are welcome to join the first session of this new project on Saturday 25th October between 10am and 2pm at Whistle Art Stop, next to the Library (NE49 0AX)

Citizen Science - Water Management near Greenlee Lough
Haltwhistle Walking Festival Walk No 17, 18th October.
7 miles, start from Gibbs Hill Farm, cost £10
 This is a very special opportunity to hear about the local work of the Tyne Rivers Trust in association with Newcastle University. The walk will explore Greenlee Lough Nature Reserve, the Haltwhistle Burn Catchment and the West Hot Banks Catchment. It will include a water management demonstration site and hands-on monitoring of the water environment. Sections of the walk are on private land by kind permission of the farmers, so this is also a chance to see the area from viewpoints that are not normally accessible.

An open invitation to join a Hadrian's Wall Community Champions project:
'Waxcaps and Fungi of Hadrian's Wall'

'Identification of waxcaps and other grassland fungi using keys and specimens, habitat recognition and discussion of their role as ecological indicator species. The conservation value of waxcap grasslands and the international importance of Hadrian's Wall for its waxcap populations will also be emphasised.'
The day will include a presentation in the morning at The Twice Brewed Inn, then after lunch we will move up to Steel Rigg for an outdoor practical field visit.
Please wear warm clothes, waterproofs and suitable footwear and bring a packed lunch and flask. Please note there is a charge for use of Steel Rigg NNPA Car Park.
Places are limited and are on a first come, first served basis so please email Maria by Monday 13th October to confirm your place.

 Apple pressing at Hexham Farmers' Market
Sat 11th October 8.30am - 2pm
A fun day pressing apples, drinking and giving juice to shoppers at the market. The aim: to raise awareness of a local food (windfall apples) which is often wasted - but it makes delicious, wholesome juice! Apples and helpers wanted - please email info@transitiontynedale.org if you can help or have apples that we could collect.
